Today Friday December 23 it is four years ago that Oscar Peterson passed away in his home in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The “Maharaja of the Keyboard” as Duke Ellington referred to him had an incredible carreer which lasted six decades and brought him success, fame, eight Grammy Awards, Honorary Degrees but first and foremost the love and respect of his audience and colleagues. Especially the famous impressario and record producer Norman Granz, whose carreer I am describing on this blog, made a substantial contribution to his succes. Peterson has a discography track record of over two hundred recordings. In 1995 “An Oscar Peterson Christmas” album was released and please listen to Oscar’s version of “O Christmas Tree” which is the best version of this traditional I ever heard.
