In the previous article about “Little Man With The Candy Cigar” I mentioned his name, pianist Jan Lundgren (Kristiansand 1966). Lundgren is a typical representative of the well established Swedish Jazz scene that had his heydays in the ’60 sixties with jazz singer Monica Zetterlund and violonist Svend Asmussen as its jazz icons. During the long period of Jazz At The Philharmonics European Tours, Stockholm was a city always visited by the Norman Granz musicians. Lundgrens debut album “Conclusions” was released in 1994 and since then he made a startling carreer in Europe and the US, resulting in a Carnegie Hall performance. Lundgren has a very powerful technique and swing drive, as demonstrated by this video of Sommar, Sommar, Sommar, up tempo, very energetic swing and a great drum solo with brushes.
